PhD Course Information

PhD 2020 - 21 Arrangements

This page will be used to keep students updated with arrangements for the PhD in Philosophy in 2020-21, in light of the Coronavirus outbreak. Further information on the academic year 2020-21, provided by Professor Graham Virgo, Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) , is here.

Students should also consult the University's dedicated page for postgraduate research students, which includes further information about how the Coronavirus outbreak may impact students on PhD courses. This can be found here.

Please note that students who have left Cambridge, and returned home, but are able to continue to work on their PhD, have been asked to apply for ‘Leave to Work Away'.  This is the case even if you can’t work at your normal rate or carry out  your normal research activities. PhD students are advised that only if  you are unable to undertake any work on your research from home, should you consider applying for non-medical intermission. This will ensure that you do not lose the time that you cannot spend on your project at present. You should discuss this with your supervisor before making an application.  This may however have implications for your funding and for your visa if you are a Tier 4 student and you should seek advice from your funding body and the International Student Office before making an application.

For PhD students who have been granted Leave to Work Away, but may now wish to take up College accommodation or to use College facilities in the coming months, you need to read the guidance for returning to College.
